Don’t panic - it isn’t May just yet, but it’s time to start thinking about No Mow May and planning your approach to your lawn this year.

Lawns? Are we allowed to have lawns? Aren’t they somehow bad?

The answer is that lawns are absolutely not bad, and if you’ve been a member of The Gardening Mind for a while, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of grassed areas in the garden: meadows, clover lawns, tapestry lawns, long grass, wildflowers, the whole lot. There’s loads of potential.

But aren’t they high-maintenance?

No, not if you simply slightly adjust your mindset. One of the biggest timesavers in the garden is my favoured approach to the mowing of certain grassed areas in gardens, and today I’m going to break down the upkeep into understandable chunks, and see how it can make life easier.
