You might have heard of Gravetye Manor, the award-winning country house hotel, Michelin starred restaurant and historic garden deep in rural Sussex countryside.
Gravetye's most notable owner, William Robinson one of the greatest gardeners of all time, bought the Manor and the one thousand acres in which it stands in 1885, and it was his home until he died well into his nineties in 1935. It was at Gravetye that he realised many of his ideas for the creation of the English natural garden, the style of which is now admired and copied all over the world, but of which Robinson in the nineteenth century was a pioneer.
The exciting news is that I have two tickets to give away, to paid subscribers, for specialist flower grower and tulip expert Polly Nicholson’s talk about her latest book The Tulip Garden: Growing and Collecting Species, Rare and Annual Varieties on Tuesday 8th October.
This wonderful event will take you on a journey to Blacklands, Polly’s beautiful, six-acre English country garden, and offers an introduction to growing and collecting tulips alongside expert tips and advice for gardeners.
As an added treat, Gravetye’s own Head Gardener Tom Coward, will join the end of the talk for a Q&A with Polly - this is something really special.
The tickets include coffee on arrival, a three-course lunch in Gravetye’s gorgeous glass-fronted Michelin starred dining room overlooking the gardens, and a signed copy of Polly’s book. It honestly will be the perfect day and I’m just sad I can’t be there!
If you’d like to your name to go into the draw for this pair of tickets, please just let me know in the Comments below.
