“Gardening is a long game for sure - that’s why, I reckon, gardening TV and its slow and steady pace isn’t something that instantly grabs the attention if you’re of a results-please mindset. Whilst the slow and gentle pace of Gardener’s World is a steady Friday night companion where you get exactly what you expect, (although in a podcast this week, Monty Don has signalled that his time there has nearly come to an end) I reckon there’s a little bit more. Others have tried before-after garden shows with a competitive Strictly Bake-off element, but there’s nothing for those who want that certain something. Or is there?”
Well, this certainly caused a conversation - and thank you everyone who has commented or emailed in response.
This interview with Monty Don meant that the proposed ‘Design How-To’ has been moved to next week, as, based on this week’s Times interview with Monty Don, I’m really keen to hear your thoughts on gardening TV, what it means to us, and what we as viewers crave. As a gardening community with communication as a central feature, gardening programmes mean a lot to us.
